The Operations Manager plans, directs and controls multiple units and resources as set out by the Director and for the purpose of meeting operating and financial goals, client objectives and customer needs. Areas and units of responsibility may include retail food service operations, market operations and or catering operations. This role is responsible for analyzing all financial reports for residential and retail operations, as well as reviewing all financial measurements with his/her supervisor to ensure the achievement of all financial goals. In addition, this person provides guidance and support in developing action plans to address areas requiring improvement and ensures compliance with Campus Dining Standard of Excellence with regard to customer service, cleanliness and quality. Areas of compliance include, but are not limited to, safety, sanitation and purchasing. This role will also oversee the implementation and maintenance of new marketing and culinary concepts for the units under his/her authority. Directly supervises unit managers with responsibility for hiring, discipline, performance reviews and initiating pay increases. Performs manual labor approximately 20% of the time. The Operations Manager is responsible for the facility, equipment, product, staff, and procedural changes and any associated marketing plans to accommodate changing customer requirements. Coordinates with designated supervisor on all branded operations. Supervises and trains regular and student employees. Monitors service, portion control, quality, production control, sanitation and house¬keeping, preventative maintenance, inventory levels, food transfers and cash handling procedures. Provides overall leadership and direction to direct reports responsible for production, sanitation, merchandising, food and labor cost analysis and marketing strategies in assigned areas. Implements strategies to increase efficiency, maintain quality, and ensure continuous improvement. The Operations Manager is a proactive, strategic thinker whose skills contribute to the efficient, systematic and profitable operation of the company’s units.
High school degree or the equivalent. Minimum five years of food service experience with increasing responsibility, including two years as a manager directly responsible for an operation. Must be able to analyze financial reports and have experience with strategic planning. Must know how to operate a cash register, debit card machine, steam wells, microwaves, knives, warmer drawers, beverage machines, can opener, bag sealer, and computer terminal. Must have above average skills in oral and written communications, have a good knowledge of principles, techniques, terminology and pro¬cedures of managing a short order food service facility, related safety and sanitation standards and procedures, and effective personnel supervision. Will supervise ~100 student assistants and ~50 regular full time employees at a time. Must be willing and able to assume subordinate job duties as needed. Must become ServSafe certified within first year of service and maintain certification as required. Must be able to develop successful working relationships with customers, employees, and supervisors. Must be able to gain their con¬fidence and respect. Requires ability to successfully operate a profit center operation with a minimum of supervision. Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds. Regular full time attendance is required.
