Cal Poly Corporation offers a comprehensive benefit program for its employees and their dependents, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. The information contained here is an overview; for more details please refer to your employee handbook or plan documents.

Time-Off Benefits
- HOLIDAYS
- Cal Poly Corporation offers thirteen paid holidays, including five company-designated floating holidays. Employees required to work on a holiday (or if that holiday falls on the employee's normal day off), will be allowed to take an equivalent amount of time off within the year.
- PERSONAL HOLIDAY
- Each employee receives one personal holiday every calendar year.
- VACATION
- Full-time employees accrue from 10 days per year to 24 days per year, based on hours worked and years of service. Accrued vacation leave is limited to 55 working days (440 hours). Vacation accruals are pro-rated for part-time employees.
- JURY DUTY PAY
- Full-time employees called to serve on jury duty will receive their regular salary for service on jury duty for up to 15 working days, or 120 hours each calendar year. Jury duty pay is pro-rated for part-time employees.
- SICK LEAVE
- Full-time employees accrue sick leave based on regular hours worked, maximizing at 12 days per year if an employee takes no sick leave. From year-to-year, there is no maximum number of sick- leave hours that may be accumulated. When an employee retires from Cal Poly Corporation, his or her sick leave will be converted to service credit. It takes 250 days of sick leave to receive one year's service credit. Part-time employees accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
- FAMILY-CARE LEAVE
- Employees may use up to 48 hours of sick leave to care for a member of their immediate family. Immediate family members include: parents, stepparents, spouse, children, stepchildren, siblings, in-laws, registered domestic partners and their children, grandparents, and grandchildren.
- BEREAVEMENT
- Employees may use up to 40 hours of their sick leave for a death in the immediate family. Employees may use up to 16 hours of sick leave for extended family members, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins (including relations by marriage), sisters and brothers-in-law, grandparents-in-law and parents-in-law (in the place of the parent).
- FAMILY & MEDICAL LEAVE ACTS
- Employees who have worked more than 1250 hours in the prior 12 months are eligible to take up to 12 weeks of leave (paid or unpaid, depending on leave balance status) in a 12- month period for their own serious illness, birth or adoption of a child, family member care (child, parent, or spouse), or for specific military-related situations. CPC will continue insurance during this time period.
- SHORT-TERM DISABILITY
- Cal Poly Corporation offers a short-term disability program for full-time employees who have exhausted all of their leave balances and are on a medical leave of absence. For up to six months, short-term disability will pay up to $231 per pay period while the employee is disabled, in addition to state disability and/or workers' compensation benefits.
- CATASTROPHIC LEAVE PROGRAM
- If an individual has exhausted all of his or her leave accruals and short- term disability benefits, he or she may receive vacation hours. Contact HR for more details.
Health & Related Benefits
- MEDICAL
- Cal Poly Corporation offers HMO and PPO medical coverage for employees and their eligible dependents through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The coverage includes the employee, his/her eligible dependents, or eligible domestic partner. Children are covered up to age 26. Cal Poly Corporation contributes between 90% and 100% of the premiums for the most popular plans. The employee is responsible for any premium payment in excess of the plan amount. Employee contributions can be taken on a pre-tax basis. Employees who have duplicate coverage may choose cash-in-lieu- of insurance.
- DENTAL
- Cal Poly Corporation provides dental insurance to all of its employees and their eligible dependents at no cost to the employee. Children are covered up to age 19, or up to age 25 if they are full-time students. Employees and their eligible dependents can go to the dentist of their choice and will pay 50%, 80%, or 100% of expenses, depending on the type of service. The plan allows a maximum of $1,500 per-person, per calendar year. The plan waives a $50 per- person calendar year deductible for semi-annual checkups and cleanings. Coverage of up to $1,250 for child orthodontics and up to $1,000 for adult orthodontics is also included. Employees who have duplicate coverage may choose cash-in-lieu of insurance.
- VISION INSURANCE
- Cal Poly Corporation provides vision insurance to all of its employees and their eligible dependents at no cost to the employee. Children are covered up to age 25. This plan has a $20 per person calendar year deductible and allows for an exam and lenses every calendar year, and new frames every other calendar year. Employees who use plan-preferred providers receive benefits paid at a higher rate, or can choose an outside provider and pay the additional costs. Employees who have duplicate coverage may choose cash-in-lieu of insurance.
- LIFE INSURANCE
- Employees are protected at no cost by a life insurance policy equivalent to a base of $10,000, $40,000, or $70,000 (dependent upon classification), and coverage equivalent to one month of salary for each year of service, for up to six months. If an employee is injured or killed from an accident, the CPC plan provides an equal base amount of Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage. Employees are eligible to purchase additional life insurance for themselves and their dependents.
- LONG-TERM CARE
- CalPERS provides a long-term care program for no additional cost to all employees and their families, including parents, in-laws and siblings. This insurance provides coverage not normally covered by health insurance, such as nursing home care.
- ASI RECREATIONAL SPORTS CENTER
- Employees have access to the ASI Recreational Sports Center for a nominal monthly fee.
- RETIREMENT
- Cal Poly Corporation contracts with CalPERS for its retirement program. Employees are required to contribute approximately 5% of their gross salary on a pre-tax basis. New employees are covered under the 2% at 60 formula. For more information, click here.
- TAX SHELTERED ANNUITIES & CalPERS 457 PLAN
- Employees have the option of saving for retirement by using tax-sheltered annuities, TSA (403b plans) and/or 457 plan. The deductions are taken pre-tax, which directly reduces the amount of taxable income Cal Poly Corporation reports at the end of the calendar year. The interest earned on this retirement savings is also tax deferred.

- FACULTY/STAFF HOUSING
- The Cal Poly Housing Corporation was formed to provide a faculty/staff housing program as a way to recruit and retain Cal Poly employees. For more information, visit the Bella Montana Homes website.
- DIRECT DEPOSIT
- Employees are eligible to join the School Employees of San Luis Obispo County (SESLOC) Federal Credit Union. SESLOC offers a full range of services, including: free interest-earning checking and savings accounts, loan privileges, IRA accounts, and direct deposit of payroll deductions for savings or loan payments. - DEPENDENT CARE
- Employees may set aside up to $5,000 on a pre-tax basis each year to pay for childcare or other eligible dependent care to enable the parent or guardian to work.
- FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS
- Employees may set aside up to $2,500 on a pre-tax basis each year to pay for eligible medical expenses.
- CAMPUS EXPRESS CLUB
- New employees are automatically enrolled as a Campus Express Club member. Employees may add value to their PolyCard (Campus ID Card) to purchase food, clothing, printing, supplies, and health services on campus. For more information, visit the Campus Express Club webpage.
- LENDING LIBRARY

- CAL POLY ADMISSION FOR CHILDREN OF EMPLOYEES
- Children of Cal Poly Corporation employees may be admitted to Cal Poly provided they meet the eligibility academic standards established by the discipline for which they are applying. Cal Poly does not provide tuition benefits for dependents.
